Vain Babble

Christian Internet discussion forums seem to be a microcosm of today's professing church and a clear reflection of its degenerate condition. So although it is saddening to me, I am not surprised when I find a multitude of "vain debates" in these forums and little or nothing which could be described as godly edification. A great deal of the discussion is just splitting theological hairs or endlessly arguing over points which should already be obvious to all true believers. And it is a very rare thing to find people admitting their errors and turning from them. They come in with pet doctrines which they have no intention of abandoning no matter how clearly they are shown to be erroneous, and no matter how miserably they fail at defending them. They have more loyalty to their particular sect and system of interpretation, then they do to the truth.

And it is a rarer thing still to find those who are willing to discuss how to put biblical precepts into practice throughout the everyday life of a Christian. Most only want to speculate about theology in the abstract. Or if they discuss actual practice, it is only to talk about the things that they do in their building once per week. Why? Because this is only as far as their religion extends. It has little or no influence in their daily lives. The reason why they won't discuss practical Christianity is simply because they don't practice Christianity.
